I was asked by the founder of *emotisaurs to test my animating skills with emoticons... It was an excuse to finally do one of those 'ower' emotes that have been floating around here on dA...
I figured I'd do a weird one just for the heck of it... I wanted so badly to throw in an explosion or two, but I just couldn't find a way for it to work properly with the overall mood
Anyway, any tips or suggestions will be gladly accepted, I'm particularly keen to hear what you guys think on how to improve my 'crappy-blue-flash-cut-to-outer-space' dealy...
And yes I know I cheated I didn't pixel the planet, I took a 40000x12000 or so satellite image of Earth and reduced it to 400x400 before messing around with the colours and such... I'm a cheat, so sue me Actually, don't sue me... Well the image was for free use by the site I got it
haha, i usually don't give as many critiques as I do with you, but you keep asking for them so I can't help it <_<
First off, this is an awesome concept, and really well done. I love the stages that it goes through. Great job on making the original transition to floating look as smooth as it does.
Second, the yin-yang stage looks a little weird to me, just because it looked kinda busy in the middle with his eyes, plus the mouth, plus a circling yin-yang, plus the electricity. Not bad, per say, just a little busy. You could try making a larger yin-yang that circles behind him? I'm not really sure there. But maybe try it and if you don't like it as much then just go with what you have, because it's really not that much of a problem, since it didn't take very much time to figure out what was going on, which is good, and, frankly, even as i'm writing this I'm thinking your original way is probably better and more theologically correct, so you can probably ignore this entire paragraph :-p
As for the blue flash transition... i'm not really sure what the point of the blue was? You could probably just stick with a couple white flashes and then go to the planet and look fine. Frankly it moves so fast, though, that you don't really even notice the blue so it still looks fine.
Next, I love the transition you made with the person appearing in place of the planet. Your electricity lines look pretty cool
The third eye when it appears, I have to admit, I mistook for a nurse's hat for a couple seconds >_>
I'm not really sure what you could do to *fix* that, but it did take a couple seconds before i could get over it looking like a hat. His normal eyes also look a bit... alien, I guess, and I couldn't quite see how they were blinking, but it looked like they were closing from the outside-in? Is there a reason for that?
Your closing looks awesome, though, with the eye just sorta blinking and then blinking out
Anyhow, yeah, I think it looks really good as is, those are just some tweaks you could try

"Who are you and how did you get in here?"
"I'm a locksmith. And, I'm a locksmith."
Wow... That's got to be the biggest comment I've ever received, and one of the rare 'critiques' too
Yeah, I'm happy with the yin-yang part of the animation, so I'll probably leave it as is. But now that you've said it I'm going to have to see what it looks like with a bigger yin-yang
Ok cool, so the flash was not such a bad thing after all. I just thought it could have been a little more 'interesting.'
Nurses hat 'eh? I'll play around and see what I can do for that... Originally the eye had an orange gradient inside it, but my sister said it looked dumb... Maybe I'll try something similar again?
Yeah the eye's are a little alien looking I guess, and the blink probably could be fixed up a bit, I actually didn't notice it myself, but now that I look it does seem a little wrong...
Thanks for taking the time to write out all that! And thanks again for the awesomeness with critiquing me, it's much appreciated
